The day had dawned cold and grey, again. It seems like the Florida winter that won’t end. Winter usually comes in small doses here. A day or two of cold weather, then back to the ‘70s. No so this winter. It got cold before Christmas, and now, in mid-February, we’re still laying a fire in the fireplace honestly to take the chill off the living room, not just for ambience.
So after the grey cleared away today, Andie had some business to conduct in Nocatee, and I’d had enough of the house. Working here every day, there comes a time when I’ve got to just get out of the house, so I went along for the ride.
On the way home, we splurged for Valentines day and stopped at The Bridge Cafe & Market for lunch.
There’s not much market there any more, though it looks as if they still do a little business in fresh seafood. The last time I was in there, the front of the place was filled with fresh produce and such. I think they were hoping to cater to the boaters who would need last minute supplies when launching their boats at the launching ramp next door. Apparently that wasn’t doing so well, because walking in today, it’s all been turned into a bar. As one of three places to have a bite and a drink on the Intercoastal waterway in Duval county, it kind of makes sense to have a bar there.
My lunch special, pictured above, was the grilled Mahi taco, which was really good. The fish was cooked just perfectly, and the other ingredients were fresh … tomatoes, lettuce, cheese. No salsa, but hot sauce, which was also quite good in the black beans and rice which came on the side. If I have one complaint, it was that there were only three small soft taco “shells” to wrap it all up in, and I could have used twice as many, given the size of the portion. But the fish bites were just as good eaten with a fork.
But as you can see, it was a fantastic, if chilly day to be lunching by the water. We took a table on the screened-in patio, which is important in the summer time when the bugs can flat carry you away, but this time of year, not so much. There was plenty of sunshine pouring onto the patio, and it was just a little too warm in the restaurant. So, we sat outside, watched the boats go by, and had a very nice lunch on a very nice day.
Still, I’m ready for winter to be done. I got my bike back from its spring tune-up at the bike shop, and I’m ready to get back to some riding. I’ve been pretty lax over the winter, and it’s time to get back to some discipline. But with a few more days of temperatures in the 30’s at night and not cracking 60 during the day … it’s going to have to wait just a little while longer.
