It’s sort of like and “Open Phones” segment on a call-in show. No real topic to discuss, so let’s just see what’s out there.
I’ve seen a lot of cold weather football over the weekend. I think it was 8 degrees Sunday afternoon in Kansas City, another game yesterday was played in Foxboro, Massachusetts, where it was snowing and blowing and bitter. Last night’s game was played in single digits, as well as tonight’s contest in Chicago, where they said it hadn’t been above 10 degrees all day.
I know, It’s winter in the Midwest and Northeast. It’s always cold in the Midwest and Northeast at the winter solstice. Yesterday was the shortest day of the year.
I know weather and climate are different things … but somehow it’s difficult to get jazzed about global warming when it’s frigid up north, and in the mid 40’s here in Northeast Florida.
So, it’s cold, though we’re forecast to be in the 70’s again by the end of the week, just in time for Jenni to get here.
And speaking of Monday Night Football … one of the Packers Wide Receivers is Donald Driver. I keep wanting them to say Donald Draper, who was the character on “Mad Men”. Still one of the best shows on TV the past couple of years.
So, the fire is burning lower. It’s cold just about everywhere. I’m not a big fan of short days. I really prefer the daylight, and I’m willing to put up with summer’s heat to have it. I’ve often thought I suffered from seasonal affective disorder. It’s not so bad right now. I guess if there’s a benefit to not working, it’s that I’m not cooped up in an office all day, working through every minute of daylight. I can at least get out and get some exposure to some sunlight, which is very important to my frame of mind.
I wish I knew what 2009 was going to bring. I’m trying to stay optimistic about my prospects for the new year. In the meantime, I just need to chill (if you’ll pardon that pun) and enjoy Jenni’s visit and the holiday.
Not such a bad deal.
