Another Lousy Cold

On top of everything else … I have to feel just crappy.  The past couple of nights I don’t think I’ve slept for more than a couple of hours at a stretch, my throat is very sore but not particularly raw and irritated … nose is stuffy, ears are all clogged … classic insult to injury.

If you remember the old “Hee Haw”, you probably recall the old song ‘Gloom, Despair, and Agony on Me” … that had the classic line ‘If it weren’t for bad luck,I’d have no luck at all”.  That’s kind of how I’m feeling.

The Jaguars finally won a game today, far too little and far too late.  Mark Woods in The Florida Times-Union was bemoaning that he’d been a  Green Bay Packers fan during the 70’s and 80’s, when the Pack one 1 playoff game in some 20 years.  Of course, the Jags have won something like 3 or 4  in 15 years … so not too far behind that.  They actually played pretty well today, maybe because everyone on the team and coaching staff is probably fighting for their jobs.  I suppose being let go from the NFL is worse than most of us losing a job.  It’s something of a specialized skill, with only 31 companies in the country that do what you do.  And a big paycheck to lose.

Still, it’s difficult to feel too sorry for someone who’s base salary is over 800K/year.  I’d love to be knocking down that kind of coin for playing a game … even if it is one that could kill you.

We kind of decided today that we need a do-over from about September on in 2008.  While I won’t be so bold or silly as to say it HAS to be better in ’09 … I certainly hope it.
