New Year’s Eve was a little odd. About the time we were going to take Jenni to the airport, Andie’s mom called. She needed to go to the ER. That was about 9:30 in the morning. Andie finally got home about 9:30 at night. And no real diagnosis. And, her computer died. All in all, not a great day until we got to time for Tom and David’s New Year’s Eve party.
Our hosts, David Gano and Tom Wilson. Andie went to high school with David, and they both still live in Jacksonville. David and Tom bat for the other team, so to speak. That made it a somewhat different New Years Eve party. As you can imagine, pictures are on Flickr.
There were several people from David’s office, as well as a couple of former roommates. Then there was Andie and me.
The token straight people in the crowd. OK, there were probably a couple of others, but we were definitely in the minority last night. Still, after Andie spent literally ALL day at the ER with her mom, it was good to go and have a drink. Aaron, one of the former roommates, poured me what had to be a quintuple Glen Fiddich, and made Andie one of his apparently world famous Cosmopolitans. She was driving, so I enjoyed my scotch. At midnight, they tried to switch the TV back to … well … TV so that we could watch the ball drop. But the house full of computer geeks couldn’t tune the TV. So we kind of faked it, taking the aggregate of several people’s watches. In the end, it really didn’t matter.
So … Happy New Year. We’re hoping for good things this year. Jenni will graduate High School. I’ll turn 50, Andie’ll turn 40 (and she swears that’s where she’ll stop counting), and hopefully this is the year we’ll dive Speigle Grove. Meanwhile, there is definitely a trip to Abaco in the works with Jen after graduation, and we’re planning to get to her dad’s place in the mountains this year as well.
It’s back to work tomorrow. Never easy after 10 days off, but I owe, I owe, it’s off to work I go.
